  • Red Sonja is set to return with a new series by Amy Chu (Poison Ivy: The Cycle of Life and Death, Sensation Comics) and Carlos Gomez (Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files).
  • DC exclusive writer Steve Orlando (Midnighter, Virgil) has been announced as the writer for the next Justice League of America series, set to debut in February.
  • Sparkler Monthly, a multimedia, digital shojo/josei English fiction magazine, has opened up submissions until the end of September. Inclusivity is part of its mission statement and it regularly features LGBTQ-friendly stories.
  • Jenn St-Onge (Finding Molly, Oath Anthology of New Heroes) has been announced as interior artist for the upcoming Misfits series with scribe Kelly Thompson (Jem and the Holograms, A-Force). The series, focusing on iconic rival band to Jem and the Holograms, features both queer and trans band members.

  • I just encountered Foolish Child, a biweekly webcomic by Dickens, hosted over at Autostraddle. Last week’s entry: “The Straight Parents’ Guide To Explaining Gay Things To Children.”
  • At the Harvey Awards, Lumberjanes won Best Book for Younger Readers and The Epic Adventures of TJ & Amal won Best Graphic Novel Previously Published.
  • My Flame Con interview with writer James Tynion IV (Detective Comics, Backstagers) went live over at ComicsAlliance!
  • Women Write About Comics writer Ray Sonne detailed her experience finding community at Flame Con.

As of September, Marvel’s

  • Secret Wars queer characters — Sanna Strand, alt universe Jubilee, alt universe Angel Salvadore — have not had major roles in one year.
  • Cullen Bloodstone has not had a major role in two years.
  • Johnny Bart (Rawhide Kid) has not had a major role in six years.
  • Karolina Dean has not had a major role in seven years.
  • Ripcord has not had a major role in eight years.
  • Jennifer Kale has not had a major role in 12 years.

And DC’s

  • Renee Montoya has not had a major role in one year.
  • Extraño has not had a major role in 27 years.
